MISSION
PEP’s goal is to connect homeless people living in the City of Pomona (part of LA County) with employment opportunities and support them in the employment process, so that they can sustain their own housing and livelihood.
WHO WE ARE
PEP volunteers are students at the Claremont Colleges who are dedicated to meeting clients "where they're at" and supporting them on the path to employment. PEP is a subcomponent of Pomona College's Hunger and Homelessness Initiatives, and is housed in the Draper Center for Community Partnerships.
WHAT WE DO
During our Tuesday and Thursday evening drop-in hours at the Armory, City of Pomona’s homeless shelter, PEP on-site volunteers provide assistance with job searches, resume-production, filling out applications, interview prep, and more. Back on the Claremont Colleges campuses, job researcher volunteers identify local job opportunities and build relationships with employers in order to increase the likelihood that clients will gain employment. PEP also facilitates the employment process providing interview clothing and transit cards, which we obtain through college-wide fundraising drives.
VISION
PEP's practical goal is to end homelessness in the city of Pomona and to foster mutually beneficial exchanges between the homeless community and Claremont Colleges students. Our long-term goal, however, is to be both a force of both positive community change, and radical institutional change by providing a means for Claremont Colleges students to take action to help those who need it most.
